Both based in Hamburg, Germany, Jamek Ortega and JUNO join forces on the ‘Suffocating’ single for BLOND:ISH’s Abracadabra label, gifting us with an emotional and impactive club track, deft with African and Latin musical touches.

Already with a plethora of releases behind him for labels such as Sudam Recordings, SP Recordings and Wired, Ortega teams up once again with JUNO following their 2022 single on Wired World. A melancholic vocal is woven into a percussively driven production, as sparkling melodic keys are sprinkled over for the magic touch!

Ortega gives some insight to the single; “JUNO and I are best friends and have been DJing together regularly for many years. When the pandemic came and closed everything, we said to ourselves that we had to produce our own music to get ahead. So, during this period we had a lot of time to produce music and focused on that. The ‘Suffocating’ track is trying to capture a feeling of melancholy through moody vocals and a dramatic chord progression, inspired by the Burning Man vibe”.

“Viv sent me a voice message on Instagram from out of nowhere in August 2021. At first, I thought I couldn't see right. In the voice message she told me that she played with Themba at a private party in Ibiza and he played some of my tracks and if I could send her some stuff. So, I sent her some songs and she played them regularly. Whenever I finished something, I sent it to her. I often think to myself anyway that she gets so many messages and doesn't read it. But even if it was weeks later, she mostly answered. Last summer she wrote me if my track La Luna was already signed, I told her yes and sent her two other songs including Suffocating. Then she wrote me that she really wanted to sign the track with ABRA and it was clear to me that we would do it. We are very happy that the track will release on ABRA as we see how much effort Viv puts into promoting the tracks. I get a lot of messages about the song when it comes out. The response already is great. And we are very happy that the label is putting so much effort into the promotion”.
