Following on from strong releases, courtesy of Blond:ish and Sobek, ABRACADABRA presents a new single from BLOEM. The Cape Town born DJ and producer is very much at the heart of the ABRACADABRA stable, being one of the co-founders of the brand, honing her sound via DJ sets at many of the ABRACADABRA events and parties, as well as having an active role in the new label.

“Zikomo” captures the unique fusion of indigenous rhythms and percussions that has been at the backbone of her sound, and a sound that will soon be showcased via a full-length album due for release in 2019.

BLOEM gives an insight into the making of “Zikomo”, “the vocals from this track I recorded earlier this year from Malawian street vendors at Kalk Bay Harbour in my hometown of Cape Town. I bought a straw handbag and they said “Zikomo Kwambiri” which means “Thank you very much”. I loved the rhythm with how they said it, so I asked to record them saying it again. They had such a great energy whilst laughing and smiling non-stop. You can almost hear their smiles when they speak in the vocal recording. I felt those vocals combined well with the beautiful Kora, an African instrument, that also features in the track."
